Who we need:
Our Content Team is looking for someone who wants to focus on high-quality learning design within a fast-paced environment and work with a friendly team of digital learning specialists and product owners. 

As a Learning Designer, you will design learning materials for webinars , online workshops, bite-size courses and  long-term courses. Working closely with Avado’s product teams, SMEs, and corporate clients, you will develop high-quality content to challenging timescales, based on frameworks that emphasise social, collaborative and task-based learning. 

We’re looking for a practitioner who can produce a very high standard of instructionally sound and clear content using an approach and language appropriate to the subject matter and the intended outcomes. You must be an excellent team player, with a creative mindset and passion for digital learning, who can hit the ground running and balance multiple projects. It's your chance to be at the forefront of designing high-quality learning solutions to meet the growing digital needs of different industries.

Initially, you’ll be designing learning content for our Marketing and Data academies. However, this may change in the medium/long-term as requirements change. If you have any experience in designing for marketing, or an interest in using data to inform your design, we’d love to hear from you! (This is advantageous but not essential.)

What you’ll do: 

• Take ownership of the learning design process and embed a pedagogical approach to ensure  learning solutions are aligned with the curriculum aims, objectives, and content
• Design activities incorporating appropriate tools and technologies to engage learners and help them achieve the relevant learning objectives
• Ensure both the activities and the content of the course are aligned with the learning objectives and goals of our learners
• Collaborate as part of diverse teams (SMEs, tutors, content reviewers, learning technologists, creatives, and delivery teams) to ensure a high-quality, polished product with instructionally sound and clear content
• Produce clear and concise documentation that guides the course development for team members and colleagues across the business to agreed timelines and quality levels
Coordinate design-related tasks with  members of other departments including Learning Technologists, Graphic Designers, Motion Designers, Copy Editors 

What we’re looking for:

Essential: 

• Strong stakeholder management, both internal and external
• Significant experience in an established e-learning/education provider or in an appropriate dedicated function (e.g. an e-learning team)
• Deep understanding of a range of learning design methods, including adult learning theories and pedagogical practices; be able to demonstrate experience of applying these concepts
• Applied understanding of usability issues
• Ability to identify and relate to the student’s perspective and create a learning experience appropriate to that audience
• Awareness of common standards and formats (e.g. HTML, SCORM, etc.), working with interactive developers to design and create engaging learning materials
• Excellent writing, editing and layout skills used to compose a range of materials (e.g. instructional text, storyboards, scripting, etc.) in a variety of contexts and tones
• Familiarity with standard production processes and methods (e.g. asset production, etc.)
• Awareness of the latest developments in digital learning

Desirable:
• Working knowledge of Moodle and/or other similar platforms, liaising with Learning Technologists to create exciting learning experiences
• Working knowledge of the Evolve authoring tool and/or other similar tools
• Experience of teaching, preferably online
• Experience of designing video content and collaborating with video producers
• Awareness of designing for mobile and responsiveness (e.g. HTML5 and Bootstrap)
• Awareness of designing for accessibility/UX principles

• A quick learner with an ambitious drive
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced working environment and balance multiple projects at once
• Enjoy working within cross-functional teams and roles
• An approach that is pragmatic and logical
• A great communicator who is full of energy, positivity and loves to build great relationships
• Articulate and analytical, educated to degree level (preferably 2:1 or above)
• Decisive, independent worker with a high level of accuracy, attention to detail and ability to understand and follow processes and systems 
• Adaptable uses own initiative, and thrives under pressure
• Fluent written English with exceptional grammar skills and outstanding written communication skills

    Being part of Avado means we can choose to study any of our programmes. In 'normal times' we also hosted regular 'Learning Days' (and these are subject to review now that we work in a more 'hybrid' way.)     Time off is very important in our business; we're all busy, we're all energised and we're all pursuing wonderful things. This can be tiring, especially when you layer on the complexities of our unique business and the ambiguity that is ever-present in the marketplace. So we are all strongly encouraged to make full use of our holiday entitlements:

    - We get 25 days holiday, plus relevant public holidays wherever you are based;

    - This increases to 26 days after 2 years' service, and to 27 days after 4 years' service;

    - We get our birthday off every year;

    - We can buy up to five additional holidays per year in January, subject to the salary sacrifice rules in place at the time.
