Who we need:

The Head of Learning Design role is pivotal to the future success of Avado and will influence and shape learning content across all Avado products.

The Head of Learning Design will contribute creative thinking, with strong experience of content development and the ability to work at a strategic level, demonstrating commercial understanding and a passion for creating outstanding learning experiences. Leading teams of learning design and editorial experts, the Head of Learning Design is instrumental in ensuring Avado continues to lead the way in the EDTech space through design and delivery of industry-leading learning design, with enthusiasm and an awareness of advances and key issues in the industry.


  • Manage a team of content and editorial specialists to design and develop outstanding learning experiences for Avado, with responsibility for delivering quality, scheduling, and communication of risks and issues to relevant stakeholders
  • Provide consultancy services to internal and external stakeholders, taking ownership for the development of Content-led strategy planning.
  • Lead in shaping the Learning Design team’s offering aligned to team strategy, growing and expanding the range of innovative solutions we can offer to learners and clients and contributing to business case development where required
  • Teams to efficiently deliver against project timelines
  • Regularly review stakeholder feedback, identifying areas for innovation that improve the user experience, developing proposals with other stakeholders as part of the wider Avado strategy
  • Keep up-to-date with technology and platform developments to seek and identify possible improvements to the learning experience of Avado clients
  • Build and maintain close working relationships with colleagues from key functions across the business (including Product Owners, Learning Technology, Lightbox Studio and Project Management)
  • Design and deliver staff training initiatives to raise awareness internally of the output from the Content team
  • Implement a development plan for the Content team to ensure skills are relevant and up to date

What you'll bring

  • A great leader. You will have significant experience (10+ years) managing people within a content function, and be able to evidence how you can help your reports develop and achieve
  • Process driven. With extensive experience of creating and implementing robust processes for the production of great digital and face-to-face learning programmes
  • A content expert. You will have strong content-related background, with extensive knowledge of learning design principles and theory
  • Able to create amazing solutions for clients. With significant experience in designing learning solutions that delight clients, and inspiring and guiding others to design solutions that will delight clients
  • A master traffic-controller. You will have high levels of personal organisation and be able to organise resource across multiple projects in order to meet deadlines
  • Expert in stakeholder management. Have significant experience of effectively managing stakeholders across different functions in a business
